The García del Cid was an oceanographic vessel dedicated to scientific missions in the Mediterranean Sea.
Built in 1979 by the now-defunct Astilleros de Tarragona, it forms part of the CSIC fleet, operated through the Institute of Marine Sciences. Measuring 37.2 meters in length and 8.4 meters in beam, the ship accommodates 14 crew members and up to 12 scientists or technicians on board.

It is specially equipped for sampling operations, oceanographic analysis, and the deployment of scientific instruments during marine research campaigns.

At GekkotaShips, we carried out the digital twin of the García del Cid, scanned in the Port of Gijón, generating a 444 m² navigable 3D model. This tool facilitates remote onboard access, designed for researchers, technicians, and support teams from partner institutions.

Thanks to our experience in the digitization of technical and scientific vessels, we ensure precise capture and results adapted to the needs of public institutions, research centers, and scientific organizations that require efficient, rigorous, and easily accessible solutions from anywhere.
